realme 13 Pro 5G | After 30 days!

realme 13 Pro 5G | After 30 days!

My journey with having to review smartphones has been nothing but great, being able to witness the evolution of a very promising product line up makes the experience even better. I started using the number series from realme dating back to the realme 9 Pro + all the way to the present, and this article should pretty much give you an insight as to why I feel, this should be a great consideration this coming holiday season if you're looking for a very capable smartphone with your hard earned money.

Design

Over the course of time, smartphones tend to shift a design language and this is mainly because of one thing "taste". This taste is very much dependent on the buying behavior and interest of consumers and most often than not, if it is something flashy it captures the attention in a snap.

With realme however, although it did start off with the flashy and punchy color design choices, the design was dialed back and was directed towards a more luxurious aesthetic which in my opinion was executed very well.

The standard formula for most smartphones would be the glass front and back with either a plastic or aluminum chassis, but this time around, just like with the previous generation, we have a faux leather finish with gold accents all around including the camera module.

In terms of feel in the hand, this to me is one of the perfect form factors. Personally I prefer compact smartphones, and although the realme 13 Pro 5G isn't exactly a small device, it actually feels a lot smaller than it should because of the subtle curve edges making it a lot easier to grip and use one handed.
Some may not like the curve edges, but to me, it just feels right at home.

Performance

As a daily driver, the realme 13 Pro 5G is great, it can handle day to day task with ease, multi-task with various productivity applications while going through social media and a mix of gaming on the side. It is actually great that despite being a mid-range device, the 13 Pro 5G was given a snapdragon treatment which makes the experience a whole lot better as most applications available on the Google Play store is more compatible with Snapdragon chips.

For the nerds who like looking at benchmark tests (which I honestly don't care about), here are some that I did manage to run for your reference:

However, ultimately, with modern day specifications, the realme 13 Pro 5G (as far as my usage is concerned) is a very capable device.

For additional information the following are what I usually do on a smartphone which I was able to do really well with no hiccups and had fun in the process:
  • Run multiple social media applications when cross-posting
  • Edit videos on the fly
  • Edit images on the fly
  • Take great imagery and videos with no overheating issues
  • Play games on high graphical settings
  • Watch content on streaming applications like Netflix
Usually it would be 2-3 of those at a time, which is phenomenal as you don't usually get to do multiple things at the same time with other smartphones as they would encounter some performance drops, but with the realme 13 Pro 5G (considering this isn't the plus variant) it was able to handle heavy and demanding tasks with ease.

In addition to the overall performance, the realme 13 Pro 5G has an ace card up its sleeve, which are two things.
  • Battery
  • AI Features
The realme 13 Pro 5G comes with a 5,200 mAh battery, the standard for a smartphone to last a day to a day and a half is at least 4,000 - 5,000 mAh, with the realme 13 Pro 5G, because the software is well optimized, during my testing, the device was able to last a few days (4-5 days) on a single charge on standby.

Standby = connected to WiFi, 50% brightness and was just getting notifications.

That's a major win, especially if you just like the idea of being connected and has no plans of using the device heavily. The A.I. side of things isn't exactly what you'd get from flagship devices in the market, but there are a few which I strongly feel, if optimized further can really benefit consumers in the long run.

Camera Performance

When I started blogging at around 2016, I actually was using a DSLR in capturing images, videos and the like. The one major gripe I had was the fact that 90% of the time, whenever I would go to places to take photos, security guards would tend to ask me to leave unless I were to secure a permit that allows me to take photos to whichever establishment I'm in.

This also applies if I have a DSLR around my neck, instantaneously, all eyes are on me, as if they're waiting for me to hold that camera up so they would have an excuse to do something with their job as opposed to checking out social media applications during work hours.

Although, if there's anything that I've appreciated over the years is, how the camera department has evolved to such heights that, with the day to day grind of going to work, or places, the need of having to carry a DSLR is becoming less and less nowadays as smartphones are becoming a lot more capable in the camera department.

In addition, without having the need of spending a big chunk of money to have a dedicated device to take pictures and videos with, now, like the realme 13 Pro 5G, you can have both, edit on the fly, and post at will in a very compact, light weight form factor.

Probably the biggest win for me aside from the fact that the cameras on the realme 13 Pro 5G can already give you flagship grade imagery, is how responsive the camera application is.

Generally, when you launch the camera app on a smartphone, depending on the "category" be it entry, mid-range or a flagship, usually determines the launch time of the camera app. With the 13 Pro 5G, I am able to literally "shoot from the waist" or what I'd call "quick draw".

This quick draw motion is basically taken from those western films where at dawn, opposing sides would have a stand off and whoever has the quickest draw usually comes out on top. Same goes with the realme 13 Pro 5G, you can't exactly hold up your phone every time in public, in most cases it is in our pockets and if the camera app doesn't load as fast, you just might miss that golden opportunity to take that perfect photo.

Final Thoughts

So as a parting words of wisdom, for any consumer looking for a very capable smartphone that doesn't come with a ton of bloatware, a fast and intuitive user interface and software experience, the realme 13 Pro 5G is one of the books.

I personally don't think this is the best, as there is still room to improve and enhance but amongst all the number series released by realme this is already in a golden state. It performs great as a a daily driver, handles games even in high settings without a sweat and performs like a champ in the camera department.

For the price, any consumer from any age group would really get their money's worth.
