This is actually my first ever OPPO device, I've tried a few in the past but these are just from friends who own an OPPO smartphone to which I held it for only a few minutes just to get a feel of it, this time I've purchased my very own.
As a Blogger, I've always been a fan of writing content online, be it on the website (past blogs) or on various social media platforms. I've used all kinds of smartphones over the years from entry level devices to flagship devices from different brands, if there's anything I'd like to mention, 90% of which are purchased not provided by brands and I believe it is better in that sense as authenticity isn't affected on what is to be mentioned and the like.
For years, I've been on a constant switch between different devices, as curiosity levels are always spiking on every release and I feel we've reached that point wherein we're already in that phase of polishing what we now know and love with Android devices.
Since I started my corporate life back in 2006 - 2013, I've always had a soft spot for entry level to mid range devices, simply because we all know how low the salary grade is, and flagship phones are insanely expensive but for good reason because of what comes in the package.
The first time I came across an OPPO devices was when the brand released the OPPO Mirror 5, which was being endorsed by Sarah G at the time, which dates back in 2015. Now I personally can't recall what smartphone I was using that time but having to spend 9,990 pesos was rather expensive for my pay check and I would often revert to smartphones that is priced at the 5,000 mark just to keep things at bay while being able to give myself the flexibility on covering other spendings on a month to month basis.
Considering the duration from 2013 all the way to the present, I wanted to start my 2025 in exploring other categories with blogging just to keep things fresh and to have a different perspective considering I've been using flagship devices from 2021 to 2024.
So to kick things off in 2025, I wanted to feature a smartphone review (article/ video) that provides me a level of nostalgia in a way of reminding me of my roots from when I started the corporate life,
"A Smartphone priced at 5,000 "
and how is a product priced at this range performs in the present and current time.
So for my initial impressions, I've already taken into consideration what some might comment as a flaw or a con which are as follows:
- Storage capacity starts at 64 GB
- RAM capacity is at 4 GB
- Display is at 720p
Honestly speaking, these are more of a nitpick/ personal opinion from others to which from my perspective isn't actually a flaw or a con.
I believe many consumers have been spoiled to a certain extent on "What is" versus "What should be" and for me, the A3x is a solid purchase for many reasons, though these reasons might change over time but for now, I'm happy with this purchase.
As for the storage and RAM configuration, storage is vital, and despite the 64 GB internal storage, it is expandable via Micro SD, so that's not really going to be an issue. Purchasing a separate Micro SD card at 128 to 256 GB is a lot more affordable than paying the extra premium just to have 128 - 256 GB of storage and isn't expandable.
RAM on the other hand, works as a supplementary feature, it isn't something that will make your phone faster, just like a modern day PC, RAM provides additional resources to make things run smoothly, so technically the processor is still the heavy lifter. They introduced a feature called "Virtual RAM" a few years ago, which brands adopted to, which is also a practice being done on laptops, so again, this is a win for me.
The 720p display, just like the storage comment, most consumers have been spoiled with the 1080p/ QHD displays of the world, yet rant and complain about the price tag. a 720p resolution for a screen is still considered HD and so long as I can enjoy my content on the fly, then I'm happy with it.
To conclude this short article, as mentioned on the onset, I will be documenting everything from the usage, day to day experiences, any potential bugs I would find, or literally capturing those life moments.
Let me know in the comments if there is anything particular that you'd like to see featured on this journey.
Cheers!
