Since I started doing tech reviews back in 2020, I've always had this fascination of trying out flagship devices from different brands. It isn't exactly about the amount of power as we already know flagship devices usually come with the best specifications, best performance and so on.
I'd probably say, it is more of being able to experience the best of the best of what a brand can bring to the table and to see what exciting new features are to be released soon for the more affordable offerings for the upcoming year.
Back in 2022, when I first got to experience using a realme device, I had nothing but positive things to say simply because of how simple yet capable the overall package is (along with the price). Over time, I got exposed and accustomed to various realme devices from both the entry and the mid range category but never the flagship... until today.
This article will basically give you my overall experience of having to use the realme GT6 which I have been extensively using for the past 30 days or so and has been enjoying the entire experience.
Over the course of time, I've seen the evolution of smartphones being released by realme, each one has their own unique trait and characteristic and every single model comes with a story to tell.
The GT6 is a combination of glass and metal giving you not just a new definition of premium but the embodiment of perfection in terms of smartphone designs, which they call a "Nano Mirror Design". In layman's terms, from a consumer standpoint, this is the type of device you'd be proud to rock without a case on.
Although the GT6 comes with a free case (which feels very premium if I may say so myself for a freebie), I've never actually used it as I was just enjoying the feel of using the device as is. It does attract fingerprints which is normal for any glass metal device, but because the color variants we have is nowhere near the black category, fingerprints or smudges aren't exactly visible unless you start looking for them.
Now unlike most consumers, I prefer curved smartphones, be it curved all the way or just subtle curves. This is mainly because it feels very much natural to my hands. In my opinion, a curved display or a curved back fits nice and snug and magically gives off the impression that despite having a relatively huge display feels a lot smaller than it is.
In addition, usually a curve display denotes "premium quality" simply because of the intricacy of bending glass as opposed to a flat display is no easy feat. This basically means, the level of craftsmanship is top notched.
Go For The Goal, Display and Performance at the Peak
A few aspects that gives any consumer a worth-while experience is the display. Most often than not, if the display on a device is configured very well, chances are, that consumer will have the best possible experience regardless of the situation.
As a techie, I for one enjoy big displays when it comes to watching content, brushing up on the latest trends on social media or being competitive when playing games.
The realme GT6 comes with a resolution of 2780 x 1264 with a screen to body ratio of 94% and a size of 6.78" inches which makes this quite the powerhouse for content consumption giving you endless possibilities for binge watching or playing games.
Not a lot people know this, but I have been a full-blooded gamer since the age of 4, I've literally finished countless titles on various platforms one gaming console after the other and it is not exactly an affordable hobby especially if you've gotten so immersed with this type of content.
I've even won tournaments back in my glory days with the likes of FPS games like CS or Fighting games such as Tekken or Street Fighter, and the experience itself is not about dominating the competition but is more of having to enjoy that moment playing games with fellow gamers.
Fast forward to the now, unless you're a streamer, most professionals are hell bent with working the usual 9-5 jobs while working side-gigs on the side to get by with all the inflations going on, and our perfect getaway is literally on our smartphones.
If we wind the clocks back, for anyone to get the best gaming experience possible, you'd have to cough up around 100k just to enjoy all that graphics and frame rates, but now, with the realme GT6, it is made possible and more available to many and with my extensive use, as a gamer, I can honestly say the realme GT6 is a major win.
A few features this device takes the cake in the field of entertainment are as follows, and I'll break them down so you'd have an idea on what each benefit provides:
- Refresh Rate: Up to 120Hz
- Touch Sampling Rate: up to 2500Hz
- Brightness: up to 6000 Nits
- Charging Speed: 120w
- Battery Life: 5,500 mAh
Refresh Rate: The refresh rate of a screen basically is a process of which what you're looking at on screen refreshes, an easy way to put it is, if you remember how cartoons are animated by flipping multiple pages and the standard speed is 60 Hz, given that the realme GT6 has 120 Hz, that basically means the animation you see on screen is double the speed which grants you a much more smooth and fluid experience.
Touch Sampling Rate: This feature focuses more on the touch response on screen, having a higher touch sampling rate can give you the edge in playing real time games as this is a reactive process. If you're playing FPS games, MOBA games or even MMORPG games, given that the realme GT6 has a massive 2500Hz touch sampling rate, the action on each tap on screen is instantaneous, with no delay whatsoever.
Brightness: Like most consumers nowadays who buys smartphones to bond and play games with friends, the most common situation is, to go to a Cafe, or in public and play under the sun, most smartphones aren't that visible under the sun or in well lit environments, so having to have a device like the realme GT 6 reach up to 6,000 Nits gives you the upper hand as this allows you to see more content regardless of the lighting condition.
Charging and Battery Life: As a gamer, battery life is crucial but charging speed is one of the most important details to consider. If you're busy playing games or doing demanding tasks, chances are you're draining the battery relatively quickly and most often than not, charging speeds for most devices can get you up to 100% in around 45 minutes to an hour.
Since the realme GT6 supports a 120w fast charging feature, this can get your device from 0-100% in less than 30 minutes. In a more realistic situation, let's say I'm editing videos and I've consumed about 20% of battery (from 100% down to 80%) if I were to plug this in, I'm literally counting 4-5 minutes tops to hit 100%.
If I was in a gaming session of 1-2 hours, max graphics and all that, and I suddenly had to do something important, I can easily top up and get on the go without breaking a sweat.
Below is a list of bench mark tests that I've ran with the realme GT 6 a few days ago, and although I'm not a firm believer of such as these are synthetic numbers, you can use them as a point of reference:
Imagine the Possibilities in Photography
Literally during the post lockdown era, we actually started to see a burst of "Content Creators" each showcasing their talents and the like and arguably the biggest factor for anyone to dive into this industry is a decent camera.
Given that smartphones have now evolved and reached a level wherein consumers no longer need expensive DSLRs and the like, us consumers are blessed in creating content with the comfort of using a smartphone.
That said, I am happy to report that, my time using the GT 6 in the camera department was fun overall. The optics alone was able to deliver great imagery and because this device was rocking a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, regardless of the lighting condition/ environment the realme GT 6 had no issues processing content whatsoever.
I'm not saying it is perfect but, the photographic styles and performance is indeed in the flagship category. If anything, I did notice that the images produced tend to lean towards the more saturated style as the realme GT 6 tends to emphasise subjects that are well lit or subjects that are illuminated as seen below:
Apart from that, the camera performance on the GT 6 (considering it's price point) is punching way above it's class giving the competition a run for their money.
The Verdict
For all intended purposes, after having to use the realme GT 6 for the past 30-40 days now and counting, I can honestly say this is indeed a winner by a long stretch. It ticks the box on all the right places at a very affordable and attractive price which also comes with all the essentials you'd need inside the box and a premium design to go along with it.
The flagship performance will give any consumer a very enjoyable experience be it for work, play or leisure and to top that all off, can give you the peace of mind as this comes with a proper IP rating to withstand dust and water related events which not a lot of brands actually provide for a device at this price.
This by far has been the best experience I've had in using a realme device, and I am very much curious to see how the brand would evolve from this to the next.
